Legal aid is a means by which eligible applicants can obtain the services of a solicitor and, if necessary, a barrister to represent them in proceedings before the courts in Hong Kong.

The Free Legal Advice Scheme provides preliminary one-off legal advice to members of the public as to their legal position in genuine cases. The objective of the Scheme is to enable members of the public having genuine legal problems to have preliminary advice as to their legal position. There is no means test and the service is absolutely free of charge.

The Bar Free Legal Service Scheme
aims to provide free legal advice and representation in cases where Legal Aid is not available or where the applicant is unable to afford legal assistance and the case is thought to be one where assistance should be given.
